Margaret W. (Weir) Carson Obituary (1927

Margaret W. Carson, 88, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Elmcroft Senior Living in Chippewa. She was born in Larnaca, Cyprus, January 12, 1927, the daughter of Reformed Presbyterian missionaries Wilbur and Elizabeth Ewing Weir. She left Cyprus at the end of World War II to attend Geneva College. She received a BA from the Pratt Institute of Art in New York City in 1952, and taught art in Bellmore, Long Island. The teaching she received and the relationships she formed at Peniel Bible Conference in Lake Luzerne, New York, focused and nurtured her Christian faith over many years. She was married in the Bronx on August 22, 1957, to David M. Carson and moved to Beaver Falls where David was a professor at Geneva College. For some years she taught art at Potter Township Elementary and at Beaver County Christian School, but her true focus was seeking the kingdom of Jesus Christ by serving the needs of others. She was a member of the Eastvale Reformed Presbyterian Church where she ministered as a deacon, meeting needs in both the church and surrounding community; a Sabbath School teacher; and a coordinator of Treasure Diggers, an after-school children's outreach program. Her mission in all these efforts was to express the good news of God's grace through Jesus Christ. She served the Geneva College community through hospitality to hundreds of college students she and David welcomed into their home. She was also an accomplished watercolor painter with a keen eye for color and proportion, and enjoyed a good game of tennis. She was preceded in death by her husband David on August 5, 2010. She is survived by two daughters, Betsy (Galen) Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, and Christi (Bill) Townsend of Beaver Falls; three grandchildren, Will, Dan, and Maggie Townsend; brother Richard Weir of Pittsburgh; sister-in-law Margaret (Delber) McKee of New Wilmington; brother-in-law James Carson of Beaver Falls; ten nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive callers Friday, November 27, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Hill and Kunselman Funeral Home, Beaver Falls. Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at Eastvale Reformed Presbyterian Church, 504 Second Avenue, Eastvale, Beaver Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Beaver County, 555 Maxine Drive, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.
