George Curtis Potter Sr. Obituary (1944

George Curtis Potter Sr. North Sewickley Township George Curtis Potter Sr., 72, of North Sewickley Township, Beaver Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Southern Crescent Hospital for Specialty Care in Riverdale, GA. Born July 11, 1944 in Butler, PA, he was the son of the late George H. and Marie Potter. George was a member of Second Baptist Church in Beaver Falls. When he was away from here he attended Rising Star Baptist Church in Fayetteville, GA. George was a graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1962. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degree from Slippery Rock University, and his administrative degree from Westminster College. He was hired by the Big Beaver Falls Area School District in 1967 and taught Spanish and driver's education in the high school and he also coached the track team. He became assistant principal, then principal at the middle school. The middle school students and faculty held a special place in his heart; most of his years as an educator were spent there. He finished his career as the assistant to the superintendent in 2002 after 35 years of a distinguished career with the school district to which he was extremely committed and proud. He was also very active in the Riverside School District where he was a school board member and a member of the Riverside Athletic Association. George enjoyed many activities; his favorites were golfing, cars, and photography. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Lieutenant James A. (Jamie) Potter and a sister, Eleanor Potter Cox. George leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 51 years, Paulette Gibson Potter, three sons, George C. Potter Jr., Libertyville, Illinois, Michael Potter, Philadelphia, Matthew (Angelia) Potter, Beaver Falls, three grandchildren, Lance, Jaedyn, and Mariah, brother Albert "Butchie" Potter, Butler, PA, sister, Kathryn Fullen, Lanham, MD, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. Friends will be received Monday in the Second Baptist Church from 2 to 8 p.m., 2322-10th Avenue, Beaver Falls, where the service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bernard E. Tench, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Beaver Falls Education Foundation, BBFEF, c/o Lieutenant James (Jamie) A. Potter Scholarship Fund, Big Beaver Falls School District Administrative Center, 1503-8th Avenue, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.
